Alaska Activities

Study Group Meetings
Our weekly Study Group meetings are on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 pm throughout the year. Generally we gather in private members’ homes. Occasionally, we meet at ATOM Center in Anchorage, near the corner of Raspberry and Jewel Lake Road. Our pattern is to begin with 10 minutes of socializing and announcements followed by an opening prayer. Then we commence reading in The Urantia Book where ever we last stopped; however, we sometimes skip to a particular section if it seems relevant. For example, during the Easter season, we may read the papers describing Jesus’s Resurrection. Always, lively discussion and provocative questions are liberally interspersed. New readers are absolutely encouraged to attend. Many of our readers have read the entire Book several times over; thus they can link several sections of the Book and give a comprehensive answer to a question. Whether a 35-year reader or neophyte, we all enjoy the communal experience of sharing Life and The Urantia Book with others. Super Saturday Study Group
Twice a year we host what we have called our “Super Saturday Study Group” in an attempt to attract some of the readers from outside Anchorage. Readers drive or fly in for the week-end, coming from Homer, Anchor Point, Kodiak, Willow and Fairbanks. Super Saturday is also a great event to share with new readers. We started hosting these semi-annual gatherings in 2004 and usually hold them in May and October in Anchorage. The format is a topical presentation, usually by a member volunteer who gathers the primary source material from The Urantia Book. We begin our meeting with some business and sharing. We find this is a good time to pass along information from the larger community without disrupting our weekly study group. We always have a potluck dinner following our study. Topics have included Angels, Fruits of the Spirit, The Five Epochal Revelations, The Universal Mother Spirit, Biblical Characters and the Enneagram, Mind, The Peace of Christ, and Beauty, among others. Our most recent topic, The Unseen Planetary Government: How the Most Highs Rule in the Kingdom of Urantia, generated much excitement...and hope!

Retreats
Each year our society organizes at least two out-of-town retreats that are hosted by one of our readers. One gathering is at a lake-front cabin (Horseshoe Lake, north of Anchorage) and one is hosted at a cabin in Seward. We really look forward to these casual, rejuvenating events. There’s always lots of laughing, great food, spiritual fellowship, nature hikes, campfires, boating. And of course, we further our understanding of The Urantia Book teachings through personal sharing time.

Soul Workshops
Two of our members have developed an “interactive curriculum” based around an ever-intriguing topic, The Soul. They have lead five workshops through 2008 and 2009. Four additional workshops are anticipated for winter and spring of 2009-2010. Attendees have greatly enjoyed the experiential nature of these workshops and have certainly come closer to “knowing their Soul.” Please see the calendar for dates of future Soul Workshops.

Global Service
Several of our members have journeyed to many remote locations around the world, joining other like-minded ‘spirit workers’ in bringing service to other counties. Alaskans love to travel and it’s quite impressive to hear about some their intrepid journeys, be it play and diversion, or well organized service work to spread love and light around our beautiful Urantia.

Jesus’ Birthday Celebration
Yearly, our statewide Northern Light Society and Urantia Societies around the world celebrate the birthday of Michael of Nebadon, our Creator Son, Jesus. We organize a Birthday Celebration around the 21st of August, the date of Jesus’ birth as given in The Urantia Book. Again, please watch ourcalendarfor more information.
